There has been a lot of demand in the past while to bring the server back up. While I am not promising anything and I don't want to get everyone's hopes up, I just wanted to make a more official statement that we WILL look into it.

We would probably bring it back up as it was when it closed, which means you'd get your accounts/chars back.

However, the development rate would most likely be near zero. We'd look at fixing any major bugs and such, but would not be working on the shard full time like we used to.

It could be a few months before it actually happens though as I have a few other projects that will be taking priority. I recently moved my web server to a new box and there is some stuff I need to fix such as a few broken sites/systems as well as rewrite the entire Uogateway poller as it wont compile on the new server, that one is fairly pressing as Uogateway is essentially not working right now.

Just an update, got hit with a snag when I moved my internet server and the uog poller stopped working and requires a partial rewrite. Since it's actually completely down right now that has taken priority.

Working on that now and getting somewhere so I hope to have it done in the next couple weeks.

I was still in middle of the forum migration (combining all my forums into a single forum) but I may possibly put that on hold for the shard rebirth.

Once that is done I still need to actually look at the feasibility of brining the shard back up, then building the new environments. Dev, test and prod. Once those environments are up and running then it will pretty much be launched as is. There was bugs and other issues, but I will launch as is, and can always go back to fix them.

I'd love to have it done before Christmas, but realisticly we're probably looking at after. Probably end of January.

It's happening!

(no idea why my link wont work but you have to copy and paste)

I'm not done fixing Uogateway though, just setting up the dev/test environment as a little side thing.

I still need to decide how I want to set it up on live as I don't want to do the VNC + Virtualbox stuff I did before it was just dirty. I want to see if I can get KVM/Qemu to work that's more server friendly. I'll worry about that once I have test/dev working though. Heck now that I have FTTH service I can always just host it from my house. While they don't allow web servers they do allow game servers.

After holidays are over I'll probably continue on this but been busy in the little days off I've had off. I have more time off coming up in January.

I did try to get a VM to work on my new web server but OVH (my server provider) seems to use a custom kernel that does not allow VMs as I can't use kernel modules. So I may need to host the shard from my house, too late to switch providers now, it's too long to reconfigure everything on a new server. Good news is I have a 50/30 connection now so it should be enough bandwidth.

Good news is, I did get the shard to run in the new dev environment. Just need to setup test and prod then setup file syncing between each environment (for deploying updates) and I should be ready to turn it up.

ETA is about a month from now. I'm still on 12h shifts right now with only a few days off in between. Once this set is done I'll have more time off to keep working on this.

Still need to finish the UOG poller and forum migration but I am making this a priority before I continue those projects.

I more or less got the environments working including file syncing (for updates/changes) and security as it's hosted off my home network. I just need to implement backups.

Bad news is, in the past 3 years there have been some packet changes in the UO client. Since I was no longer keeping up with this stuff it will be much harder to figure out when those changes happened, and what the changes were so I can fix them.

The good news is the shard actually does run, and I can connect to it. So it's a start.

Will update further in the next few days on how the packet changes are going.

Its a bit shit being a dumb weed smoking cunt or I would offer to help do the packet changes.
Can make scoobs and coffee and that's all.
Can also cook steak burgers

On the one hand, easier to keep shard population up when a current client can connect to it. On the other hand, a number of shard require an older client to connect to them and I personally have no problem with that. Shrug.

Yeah that's what we decided to go for, we will just distribute an older client that I found a backup of that happens to work. it's actually behind what we were on before so there's still potential for issues but all the testing we did seemed to indicate it works.

Not 100% official, but we're actually thinking of launching tonight... like, very soon. Just doing some final testing.
