It's been over 8 months since the invasion that tore apart Magincia. The demons of the void, the light demons and demon berserkers showed no mercy in sparing the lives of the innocent citizens.

All that was left of magincia was a smoldering pile, rubble from the leftover shops and houses. Few escaped with their lives. The survivors fled to jhelom, moonglow and skara brae, afraid to return to their homes in case the demons returned.

It's been quite some time since the invasion and a group of thieves have recently ventured into the ruins of Magincia to loot some relics and goods to sell through the black market. After all, some people would pay highly for some of their possessions that were seemingly "lost" in the ruins of the city.

Just a few weeks ago however, the thieves found that they were no longer the only ones taking interest in the Magincia ruins. As the days rolled on, a wall appeared out of thin air, made from the debris of the Magincia ruins.

Somebody might be trying to rebuild their home perhaps? The thieves thought the same thing, but the strange part is nobody noticed who was building the wall.

One thief reported that he saw "Rubble floating in the air". Perhaps the spirits of the dead victims trying to ward off looters?

Could that explain the wall's existence? During the last few weeks, the wall seems to have doubled in size but still, nobody has a clue of who (Or what) is building it. Some people have gathered outside of Magincia to observe from a distance. Some claim that they've seen "dark red eyes" around the ruins at night.

The Standard is not sure exactly what's been going on but we'll be periodically reporting more facts as we receive them.

It's been a little over a week since we last investigated the strange occurances at the ruins of Magincia. We were intrigued by the rumors so we decided to talk with the Council of Mages.

The Council of Mages have been around for hundreds of years during the great faction war. We were honored to be given the opportunity to interview one of their oldest leaders: Karl Zen.

The Standard: "Good day Karl Zen! We must say we are honored to be interviewing you!"

Karl Zen: "Good good"

The Standard: "Can you tell us what's been going on lately? Being so close to the ruins of Magincia, surely you must know something"

Karl Zen: "During faction battles and protecting our base again attacks, we haven't really paid attention until the rumors started surfacing"

The Standard: "Did you or any of your members decide to investigate?"

Karl Zen: "Yes. I sent some mages out to investigate the ruins. They did not see anything out of the ordinary besides the fact that there was a strange wall in the middle of the ruins. OH! A couple of members "did" see a few pieces of rubble floating in the air but when they went to approach it, the rubble fell back to the ground"

The Standard: "So the rubble just 'fell' suddenly when you tried to approach it?"

Karl Zen: "Yes. Could have been the wind raising it or something. Maybe even a ninja or stealther trying to play tricks on us."

The Standard: "People claim they've seen bright red eyes at night, can you confirm if these rumors are true?"

Karl Zen: "We have not investigated at night, only during the day. Night time is risky. Many thieves come out to steal from the ruins at night and they've been known to become violent. We also experience base raids during the night as the darkness gives stealthers an advantage of not being seen so we're rather busy at that time."

The Standard: "So you haven't seen or heard anything strange?"

Karl Zen: "Sometimes at night, we can hear a low 'ooooOOooing' noise coming from the ruins. I assume it to be wraiths or zombies but now that you mention it, we never used to hear those noises before."

The Standard: "Karl Zen, we thank you for your time answering our questions"

Karl Zen: "You're welcome. Now go out and kill those darn True Brits!!!! Hehe, just kidding!"

Suuuuure he was. Karl Zen's interview did not give us much more information on the mysterious happenings in the Magincia Ruins but he did say that he never really checked on the ruins in the night.

We all know that there are things that go bump in the night. Tonight, when it's dark, we will be investigating the strange happenings at the Magincia ruins to get a look for ourselves!

We approached the Magincia ruins just as the sun was setting in Sosaria. To our surprise, Magincia looked a lot darker without all the lamps it used to have before the destruction.

There was hardly any light, so we took out a few torches and lit them. As we ventured closer into the ruins, we noticed some faint red and black lights in the distance.

"Where are those lights coming from? Are they eyes?"

One of our members took out his crossbow, just in case something jumped out at us. As we grew closer, we discovered the origin of the light. Red and Black lanterns were floating all around the ruins, and with them, pieces of rubble flew into the sky.

As we watched the rubble move into the air, we took at glance at the wall.

It was big. Much bigger than it was earlier today. In fact, it had grown twice as large.

"Somebody or something has bewitched these lanterns" one of my friends said.

Suddenly, one of the lanterns came towards us. Before we could take the swords out of their sheafs, one of my members launched an arrow at the lantern. A beam of light flew out of the lantern and flew towards the attacker, passing right through him with so much force that he was tossed backwards into a pile of rubble. Within seconds, he was dead.

We quickly stepped back away from the rubble and headed towards the moongate.

"This is bad, we need to get out of here!"

As we rushed towards the moongate, I looked back to see if the strange lanterns were following us. I breathe a sigh of relief when I saw no sparkling red and black lights. My sigh of relief was short lived.

"What's that in the sky?!"

I grabbed the arm of a mage who had accompanied us and pointed towards the sky. A bright orange object was falling from it, getting bigger and bigger and bigger. We heard an earth shattering BOOM as the object made impact with the earth.

"It hit the house of the Council of Mages!" I cried, but we were both already running towards it.

As we approached the impact, we discovered that a medium sized flaming object had taken out one of the bridges of the base. A bunch of hot, blackish rocks littered the bridge.

"It looks like a meteor" the mage said. "We should grab one of these stones, maybe we can find out where it came from".

Try as we might, we could not gather one of the stones. As we approached the meteor, we became weak and violently ill. We pulled away quickly, grabbing greater cure potions from our pockets and quickly drinking them. There was some foul poison in that area.

As we sat to regain our health, we heard heavy footsteps and yelling coming from the other bridge. A cloaked figure tore across the bridge on a steed in a mad gallop with several council members chasing after it.

The cloak figure disappeared from view, and it was not long until the council members found their way to us.

"What happened?" I said

"We have no idea, we heard this tremendous crash and came out to investigate. As we gathered at the bridge, that thing was waiting for us. We seemed to have chased it off though. Maybe it came from the ruins?"

"We don't know, but there's some strange lanterns hovering in the ruins right now. Don't attack them, it's instant death if you do" I said as I got up off the ground.

We stared at the smoldering meteor. Where did it come from? Undoubtedly it had something to do with the ruins and those strange lanterns. Could those lanterns have summoned a meteor like this? Or perhaps that cloaked figure who rode off out of sight?

We may be playing with fire in this mystery.

It's been 6 days since the meteor hit the base of the Council of Mages, completely blocking the second bridge to the base.

We returned in the daytime to look for more clues. We were shocked to see that the whole half of the island turned into a giant barricade. Apparently the strange lanterns were still building this massive barricade. Why were they doing this? What incentive was there?

Could it be the Council of Mages were doing this all along and leading us astray? Or was there another force at work here? Who was the cloaked figure we saw that night and where did they vanish off to?

All we knew at this point in time was that these lanterns were working hard to try and keep us out. We found it a lot more difficult to enter Magincia with the giant barricade blocking us. However, there were still quite a few openings left that had not been closed up yet.

We walked passed the barricade and were reminded of the Magincia ruins. With the barricade up, we almost forgot what happened here several months ago. Rubble strewn apart everywhere, not a single soul around. The Council of Mages were the only ones who remained.

"I'll go check over here to see if there's an entrance to the meteor" my friend said as he walked away in the opposite direction.

I walked along the edge of the barricade, looking for an entrance to the meteor. I became startled when a being flew out of midair, spilling what looked to be some jewels and swag. A priceless ming vase crashed on the sandstone ruins.

The thief pulled out a knife and brandished it at me.

"Why don't you watch where you're stepping?! I'm stealthing here you oaf!"

The thief prepared to stab at me but I was quick to disarm the crudely carved knife out of his hands.

The thief staggered back, pulling a dirty bandage out from his pockets to staunch the abrasion I had inflicted.

"Everyone's after my loot, why don't you just bugger off!" The thief yelled while picking up some of the dropped loot.

"What are you doing here anyways? Looting people's valuables. Many souls were lost here, have a bit of valor" I said with an angry tone, eyebrows shifting downwards during the scowl.

"This loot's ripe for the picking, and it's all mine! You hear me? It's my shot at a slice of the pie. These goods fetch a great deal with the traders and I'm not about to let any trammie take it from me!"

"Traders? What traders?" I asked with a look of interest on my face.

The thief's eyes lit up at my words. Apparently, he said too much and now I was some kind of threat. He prepared to lunge at me but before he could, we were taken by surprise by somebody shouting.

"I found an opening in the barricade that leads us to the meteor". I turned my head for one second to see who was calling. It was one of my crew members, who was now racing towards me to tell me the news. When I glanced back to where I was, the thief was gone and all that was left was the shattered remains of a vase and a golden pendant he dropped while fleeing.

I picked up the pendant. It was tarnished from the destruction of Magincia. It must have been sitting under the debris for several months. Almost everything was golden on the pendant, except for the center. A blackish stone in the center of the pendant was an unusual addition to the pendant. I spied it with fascination

"Is this a piece of obsidian in the middle?"

"Doesn't look like obsidian, obsidian is dark and glossy. This stone is blackish and unpolished. Quite an unusual combination for a piece of jewelry" my friend said while running his finger across the stone.

"It's kind of rough actually"

Not wanting to leave the pendant for other thieves, I decided to take it in hopes of finding who it belonged to. I quickly pocketed the pendant and we were on our way to the site of the meteor.

As we crept along the wall of the barricade, we spotted the meteor in the distance. There were three of us: Myself, Lord Kane of the Council of Mages and Mordak the mage who was the one who came shouting when the thief tried attacking. We met up with Lord Kane on our way to the meteor.

He was standing at a distance, his large overseer sundered blade at his side, just staring at the meteor. His norse helm shone against the setting sun and reminded us that it would be dark soon. We best do what we came to do and leave as soon as possible before things get ugly again.

"Hail" I said while approaching the bridge. Lord Kane casually glanced at us. Apparently something was on his mind as he did not acknowledge our presence at first and returned his glance to the large black boulder that now made the bridge to COM inaccessible.

"Good day sir, I am Jacob of Jhelom and this is Mordak the mage. We've come to observe this meteor".

"It's shocking, isn't it? That this meteor would just fall from the sky out of the blue. I'm glad nobody was injured but I can't help but wonder 'why' this meteor decided to come crashing" Lord Kane said.

We walked up to Lord Kane to get a better glance of the meteor.

"I am Lord Kane, a sheriff for the council of mages. I work to protect my faction but alas, I am overwhelmed".

"Why is that?" Mordak asked.

"Nothing could have prepared us for this meteor, and I feel that all the guards I could hire would not be able to prevent another from falling. As a protector, I feel vulnerable at the thought of being defenseless if another meteor were to fall"

Lord Kane hung his head in shame, feeling defeated

"We're here to help. We've come to take samples of the meteor to see where it came from. Perhaps some research will help us find out where it came from. This research can help you protect your people"

Lord Kane smiled weakly.

"I sure hope so" he said before walking out of view towards a group of his followers. As he greeted them, he put on a show of confidence as to not let them down, but we knew he was at a loss.

The sun began setting rapidly and it started getting dark.

"Alright, let's finish this before it gets too dark" I said to Mordak.

We approached the meteor. It no longer radiated that vile toxin it once did and the fire and magma had cooled and hardened. Mordak took his hammer pick and prepared to chop a piece off the meteor. Nothing could have prepared us for what happened.

As the pick struck the rock, there was a loud explosion and we were both tossed back with violent force. Luckily we fell into the waters and were unhurt. We stared up at the bridge as columns of fire, ash and rock poured from the meteor momentarily before subsiding.

"What in the name of Shamino just happened?" Mordak said as he got up, cleaning the black soot from his face and collecting his hammer pick which was now in several pieces.

"Apparently you hit some kind of nerve or core when you struck the rock".

As I helped him collect the pieces of his hammer pick, an outstretched hand appeared beside us.

It was Lord Kane and several members of the Council of Mages. As they hoisted us up out of the river, Kane began to speak:

"I don't think it's wise to attack the meteor. It's dangerous and unpredictable. A stunt like that could get us all killed. How do we know it won't explode and take out the rest of Magincia?"

"We just needed a sample" Mordak said. "Besides, it looks like it stopped spewing out hot flames."

We decided not to repeat that action again. As we walked up to the bridge, Mordak mumbled "remind me never to try that again". Luckily, we wouldn't have to, for at out feet was a tiny chunk of the meteor.

I reached for it. It was warm to the touch and as I held on to it, it gave me a feeling of power. I felt stronger, healthier, wiser.

"Here, hold this. Tell me if you feel anything". I handed it to Mordak. His eyes lit up with surprise at the touch.

"That's interesting, I feel stronger, healthier and wiser when holding this stone. It's rather remarkable." He said

"It is, hand it back to me. I'll bet the great alchemist of Moonglow will be able to tell us what it is." I extended my hand waiting for the stone, but Mordak stood there, continuing to hold it.

"Mordak? Is something wrong? I asked for the stone, did you not hear me?"

"Oh ya, right. Ummm I think it's best if I held on to it for safe keeping. After all, you did get attacked by a thief."

I agreed to let him carry the stone in his pocket but questioned his peculiar behavior. Why did he hesitate when I asked for the stone?

We arrived back home in Jhelom just as it became dark. We were both holding lanterns to light the way.

"It's a shame about your hammer pick, it was your father's wasn't it?"

"Ya don't worry about it. It's not like it was a heirloom" said Mordak. As we reached my house, I extended my hand again.

"The stone, I'll lock it up for safe keeping"

"Nahhh you don't need to do that. I'll place it in my bank for safe keeping. After all, what's more secure than a bank box?" Mordak said as he took out the stone once more. As he held it, his eyes glazed over in a stare. He stood there, just staring at the piece of stone.

I quickly swiped the stone from him and he snapped back to reality.

"What is with you lately? Staring off into the heavens. You should see a healer cause I think those meteor fumes have gotten to you." I said as I placed the stone in a small pouch and tied it up.

"Ya, maybe I should. I think this whole meteor and floating lantern scenario is making me loopy".

"Get some rest, I'll keep an eye on the stone." I said as I placed the stone in my pack. We nodded in agreement and both set out in opposite directions.

Don't worry too much about it now. For now it's storyline building up to the events (There are many stages of this event).

This is a large event being hosted on AOV, one that can potentially last for months. For those who participated in last year's Halloween event when Hel broke loose to try and reap the souls of the Sosarians, it's similar to that.

For now you can just read the storyline and make some assumptions and try to solve the mystery. That's half the fun of the event. As more of the storyline gets posted, more things will change in game so just keep snooping around where the story leads you!
